MC: Hi, Kylie!
KB: Hi, Magnus!
MC: Today, we are going to be talking about Black Phone 2 and checking out what the critics say (besides us, the number one movie critics in Tiverton)!
MC: Kind of funny that we are on the phone as we write this… haha
KB: Maybe coincidence, maybe not… But hey, as long as it’s not a black landline.
MC: Without any further ado, let’s dive right in
MC: Today, we are going to be discussing, as previously stated, Black Phone 2
KB: Released in theaters on October 17th, 2025, the movie is classified as a horror/thriller, and wow, did it live up to its name.
MC: To get the whole experience, we sat in the 3rd row with our popcorn and sodas (KB: Poppi!) and got ready to watch.
MC: Here is a good time to note that we will not be spoiling the movie; we will just be discussing thoughts and aspects of it. If you want to know how it ends, well, you will have to watch it yourself!
KB: Magnus and I do movie Tuesdays at Picture Show weekly, since Tuesdays are their discount movie days. We went the week before Halloween to get ourselves in the spooky spirit, and I can say I was certainly spooked after this movie.
MC: Yeah, it’s sort of a tradition, grabbing some food and soda, then going to the movie theater to see the newest movies.
KB: For starters, this movie was scarier than the first. I was a diehard fan of the first one. When I heard the second was coming out, I was excited. Definitely, I conflicted about how anything could top the first. And I was proven wrong. The psychological horror aspect of the second movie really makes the viewer think, including us. This movie made us feel a lot, following the highs and lows of the characters; it was very immersive.
MC: I haven’t personally seen the first, but I got an excellent summary from Kylie. I loved the movie’s aesthetic. There was an analogue horror element that elevated the scare factor and made it feel almost like an indie film. So what is the plot of the movie?
KB: The movie follows Finney Blake, the main character of the first movie, and his sister, Gwen Blake, as they navigate the trauma the Grabber inflicted on them just four years prior (the first movie takes place in 1978, the second in 1982). Their trauma is turned into the main horror factor of the film, centering around flashbacks and PTSD.
MC: Beyond this, as in the first, the victims of the Grabber were shown to Gwen, revealing where their bodies were being slowly moved to advance the plot. I was shocked as the main character slightly switched to center on Gwen rather than Finney, but I wasn’t disappointed.
KB: Yeah, I will say that also shocked me, especially because I went into the movie not even knowing Gwen would play such a significant role. Obviously, we won’t spoil the ending or the good parts, but I will say that it puts the ‘sequels are always bad’ rumor to rest.
MC: I usually don’t get scared that easily, but this movie was thrilling; I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. To sum it up, I would say this is a standout psychological horror movie that uses its budget to make it the best possible.
KB: Yes, 100%. It is a must-watch, full of heartfelt moments, jumpscares, thrills, and healing family dynamics. Though it is rated R and is definitely very scary, I recommend it to anyone who loves thrillers and horror. Just remember to BYOA (bring your own adult) if you’re under 17.
MC: All in all, we wouldn’t skip out on this movie, especially if you liked the first. This movie packs a scare with a fulfilling ending, so sit down, kick back, and hope that your phone doesn’t ring during the movie…
