The holiday spirit has been running high at Tiverton High School since Friday, December 6, when students competed in the much-awaited annual Homeroom Gingerbread House Competition. The event, set up to spread festive spirit and creativity, saw each homeroom receive an identical package of gingerbread house ingredients.
Each homeroom had forty minutes to turn their supplies into gingerbread masterpieces. The kits included classic supplies: pre-cut gingerbread pieces, royal icing, gumdrops, candy canes, and other decorations. Some groups focused on precise and clean designs, while others went all out, creating elaborate and whimsical houses that showcased their teamwork and holiday spirit.
In the end, Mr. Ross’s homeroom was declared the winner with their intricate gingerbread village. Their creation featured multiple tiny houses with a christmas tree in the middle, cute little snowmen, and hand prints covering the base of the design. Mr. Calisto’s homeroom claimed second place with a towering gingerbread castle that impressed with its height and decorations.
The competition wasn’t just about winning, though. Many students appreciated the chance to bond with their homeroom peers in sharing laughs while perhaps stealing some candy at the same time. The teachers, too, didn’t hold themselves back; some stepped in to help steady a wall here and there, while others just cheered on their students.
The Gingerbread House Competition has cemented its status as a cherished holiday tradition here at Tiverton High School with creativity, camaraderie, and a healthy dose of holiday cheer on full display. As the students headed home for winter break, many were already brainstorming ways to top this year’s creations in next year’s competition.
Congratulations to Mr. Ross’s homeroom on their win, and Happy Holidays to one and all!
