Before entering the yearly Homecoming game, Tiverton was on a four-game losing streak. The Tigers were set to face off against the ranked #2 teams in the league, Davies. The Tigers let up a touchdown half way through the first quarter, but spirits did not dip. The crowd cheered on as the Tigers had a huge defensive stop, giving them the ball back with barely any time left in the first quarter. Aidan Champ and Evan Lapointe dominated the run game, helping the Tigers crawl their way into the redzone, which set up Brendon Sowa’s first field goal of the season, and shortened the lead 7-3.
The Tigers have been down against teams and came back before, so when halftime was called, and the Homecoming festivities were taking place, the Tigers had a pep-talk and came out hot. They went on to drive down scoring a touchdown to lead 9-7. Davies answered though, and took back their 15-9 lead with a 2-point conversion. The Tigers needed something, and with a big drive, a few penalties, and some adversity, they scored again, pulling ahead 16-15 with the fourth quarter to go.
Defending the run had been a struggle all season, and sadly, it would be their downfall. A rushing touchdown put Davies on top 23-16. A huge drive gave the Tigers the chance to tie the game. A good attempt by Ben Troia and Roman Fauci sadly was not enough. It came to fourth down where a crucial drop happened resulting in the Tigers’ loss.
Obviously it was heartbreaking, but the very next week the Tigers took on North Smithfield in a defensive masterclass to ruin North Smithfield’s homecoming. The Tigers took home a win with a huge extra-point block by Will Carvalho to punch the Tigers into the playoffs — and keeping their hopes of hanging another banner alive.
