Despite not having enough people to make up our own hockey team, Tiverton highschoolers make up a strong portion of the RMT Hurricanes hockey team. This team consists of players from Rogers, Middletown High School, and Tiverton High School, hence the RMT.
The team captain is our very own Zach Scheffler. The eight other THS players are Austin Silvia, David Silvia, Nick Gilkeson, Payton Travis, Caleb Steen, Jacob Chouinard, Tyler Jordan, and Lucas Nicoletti.
The current season started in late November, with their first league game taking place in early December. However, these first few games were not a great start to the season, with their first three league games all being losses, and with the losses being by one point.
However, this did not stop the team. They hit the ground running in the New Year, with their first win of the season only six days into 2024. They then followed that with another win on the 14th, this time not letting the other team score a single point! This season is looking to be a good one for the Hurricanes.
But despite how good this season looks, it’s also important to remember the monumental season that the Hurricanes had last year. Last year, the Hurricanes beat the Portsmouth Patriots for the Rhode Island Hockey State Championship, proving that Tiverton can actually win games that matter.
