People wait all year for the time that they can see their favorite artist dressed up at the Grammy Awards, and with the nominations just being announced, we are one step closer to that night. The Grammys happen every February and is a highly anticipated event for musicians and their new albums. Within the Grammys, there are many different awards to be given, though most people look for the Big 4: Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. Each year, these are the most anticipated awards and cam cause controversy. Last year, there were many great artists that won awards, but this year, they may be even better.
The Grammys are a big night for many. One artist I hope will win is Charli XCX, whose newest album, Brat, I think was different from other albums that were released recently and it is very well-made. Another artist I hope will win is Gracie Abrams. She is up for Best Pop Duo with Taylor Swift for their song “us.”, which is a great song.
There are so many great nominations this year, and in each category, there has been a wide sweep of women up for awards. This year alone, most of the Big 4 nominees are women, which is big coming from a place where a few years ago, it was mostly men dominating the awards. Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are both nominated for all four of the biggest awards and are the only two people in all four of those categories.
The last Grammy awards of the night are the Big 4, and this year, these categories are packed full of talent. For Record of the Year, we have songs like, “Espresso”, ” 360″, “Birds of a Feather”, “Not Like Us” “Good Luck Babe!”, and “Fortnight”. Kylie Burgo, a student here at THS, believes that “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift and Post Malone or “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Ellish will win, because she thinks both songs “have some of the craziest background vocals and music on them. Beautiful songs with beautiful meanings”.
After Record of the Year, we have Song of the Year. Some of this year’s nominees are “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, “Birds of a Feather”,“Die With a Smile”, “Good Luck, Babe”, “Not Like Us”, “Please Please Please”, and “Texas Hold ‘Em”. After talking to Kylie again, she said that she thinks “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan will win because of how this song took over the world this past year.
The next category is Album of the Year. This includes “New Blue Sun”, “Cowboy Charter”, “Short n’ Sweet”, “Brat”, “Djesse Vol. 4”, “Hit Me Hard and Soft”, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”, and “The Tortured Poets Department”. With all of these nominees, I think it’s hard to pick one album that is awarded, but I think that it will be “The Tortured Poets Department”. Even though this was not Taylor Swift’s best album, I think that everyone loves her enough for her to be awarded with this.
The last big award, Best New Artist, has nominees Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Raye, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey. Everyone that I talked to about this year’s Best New Artist nominees believes that either Sabrina or Chappell will win.
