A year after seeing the first movie, my friends and I grabbed our pajamas and security blankets and headed to the Fall River Picture Show to see Smile 2. While we held each other’s hands and closed our eyes, we left laughing and talking about how good the movie was, despite us watching it through the safety of our sweatshirts and blankets.
Personally, Smile 2 was one of my favorite horror movies I have seen this year. While seeing it in the theater definitely adds a fear factor to it with not being able to get up and turn the TV off, despite this, the movie had incredible plot twists and nauseating gore. The movie follows pop star Skye Riley, played by actress Naomi Scott, who delivers an Oscar-worthy performance with her portrayal of pure terror and her character’s descent into madness. This movie is unique, illustrating a positive symbol, such as a smile, and associating it with possession and evil.
Smile 2 had me leaving the movie theater questioning everything and everyone. It is definitely something that you need to watch a second time to catch all the hidden symbolism and plot points. The plot twist is one of the most well thought-out and strung along twists I have seen in a horror movie, and it is definitely worth the watch!
