In a shocking announcement that instantly sparked controversy late last year, Jake Paul is set to fight boxing legend Mike Tyson on November 15th. Taking place at the AT&T stadium and streaming on Netflix, this will be one of the most spoken-about fights in recent years, and the results will reverberate throughout the boxing world: a social media star versus one of the best boxers of all time.
Jake Paul, who originally got his fame as a YouTuber, started a boxing career along with his brother, Logan Paul. Over the years, he has given himself a record of ten wins and one loss. It may seem impressive, but he has set himself up for controversy with the people he’s fought. Some believe that he’s fighting “washed-up” fighters who are past their prime. Either way, he has quite the record and will be tested by Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson, 58, is an undisputed heavyweight champion and a boxing legend, known for a unique and aggressive boxing style. With a record of fifty wins and six losses, Tyson has proved himself to be a force not to be reckoned with. After a long break and now past his prime, Mike has chosen to come back for possibly his last fight ever.
Much is at stake for both fighters, but mainly for Jake Paul. He is fighting a boxer, Mike Tyson, who is nearly thirty years older than him, and if Jake Paul loses, the audience will most likely think “he lost to an old man”. But, if he wins, the audience will think “he beat a washed-up fighter.” Either way, Mike Tyson will be looked at more normally, even though some might see him as money-hungry to do this fight.
Recently, I interviewed my boxing coach, Mike Bryant, who has been boxing since he was twelve. The owner of Love’s Boxing in Fall River for the past three years, he has been coaching since 2018. Coach Mike believes in a “personalized approach” when coaching someone in boxing. “Not everyone can be treated or trained the same. There can’t be a cookie-cutter training mentality,” he stated.
Furthermore, I asked him his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. He replied negatively, stating he “hates that they’re even luring out a world champion like Mike Tyson and making him stoop to a level as Jake Paul.” He also thinks that Jake Paul will win because of Tyson’s recent inactivity. However, he still plans to watch, but predicts that it will not impact the boxing world.
Regardless of the negative or positive thoughts on it, who do you think will win the fight? It will certainly be entertaining to see. I like to hope that Mike Tyson will win because of his greatness in the past. I am biased though, because I want to see Jake Paul lose anyway. Get ready to place your bets!
