After the excitement of Spirit Week, Pep Rally, and the Powderpuff game, Tiverton concluded its festivities with the annual pre-game bonfire! This old tradition was brought back a few years ago as a fun way to get excited for the Homecoming game. As the sun sets, a roaring fire supplied by wood pallets is carefully burned by the Tiverton Fire Department for an hour as students chat with their friends and secure their seats on the bleachers.
This year, in addition to usual candy and drink concessions, catering from Chick-fil-A was offered, complete with their iconic sauce. Their famous waffle fries, chicken nuggets, sandwiches, and mac and cheese were quick to sell.
Another new feature allowed students to showcase their talents through face painting. They created designs like butterflies and tigers that added to the night’s cheerful atmosphere.
As fall creeps its way in, the nights are getting chillier. The enormous flames helped provide much-needed heat against the 45°F weather. Students gathered around the fire with their blankets and hats, taking pictures and talking amongst each other. Not only did the fire bring physical warmth, but also the warmth of spirit and community.
Whether you just came to socialize by the fire or to stay and watch the game, your presence helps keep this tradition alive and thriving. Here’s to many more bonfires to come!
