On the night of September 10th, 2024, Americans gathered around their televisions to watch the presidential debate between former President, Donald Trump, and current Vice President, Kamala Harris. These debates give an opportunity for citizens to determine their chosen candidate and their policies before the day of the election. The moderators asked both Kamala and Trump about different topics, such as immigration, taxes, the economy, abortion, the environment, and foreign policy.
At the beginning of the debate, both candidates greeted each other with a handshake, Harris saying “Let’s have a good debate”, met with a response from Trump with “Nice to see you. Have fun.” Throughout the debate, it was clear in their body language when one did not believe or agree with the other. Harris met Trump’s comments while laughing or shaking her head, while Trump looked forward avoiding eye contact while occasionally shaking his head. The moderators did an incredible job at fact checking a claim that was brought to the table so the audience could have a clear and true view of what was going on in their country. It is hard to say if anything had been solved or progressed during this debate, but it gave American citizens an opportunity to see how each candidate handles a public stage to express their policies.
