The air is brisk, and the moon is glowing. Tiverton High is playing their homecoming game. There, “The Perky Turkey,” “Pete’s Ice Cream,” and “Kristi’s Krafttails.”
The Perky Turkey had $6 sides, and $17 meals that focused on turkey, displaying culinary excellence and amazing skill.
Pete’s Ice Cream, a staple throughout town, was there selling all his classic treats while Kristi’s Krafttails was there providing beverages particularly their homemade apple cider, a classic for the season.
A little before nine the fire was lit, blazing through the night sky. After the game ended with Tiverton losing, everybody gathered around, facing the warmth of the fire at their front and the comfort of friends and family by their sides.
As a freshman student, Ruby Jewell recalls when asked about food, “I had the mashed potatoes, and they were pretty good,” and when asked how the bonfire was, “It was pretty nice, very cool.” I loved the atmosphere and the people around.” With similar feelings, senior Nicholas Brennen stated “It was slow, but really cool – it took a while to start but when it did it was really cool.” Senior Abigail Darran said that the food was “good, I really liked the mashed potatoes, the turkey wasn’t good, but certainly not bad.” On the bonfire, she said that it was “very nice, it was very social and had more people than last year.”
Overall, people were happy, having fun and enjoying themselves with younger kids playing baseball – and a collection of students watching the games, cheering and happy. The band played for the game, particularly Seventh Nation Army, and Eye or the Tiger – which came out beautiful and gave the best mood to the game. This wound up being a fun social event for all ages, kids, teens, parents and grandparents – and everyone in between!
