Taylor Swift just released her 12th studio album The Life of a Showgirl on Friday, October 3rd. It is her shortest full-length album. The album has 12 tracks including The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest daughter, Ruin the Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t, Wood, CANCELLED!, Honey, and last but not least, The Life of a Showgirl ft. Sabrina Carpenter.
We all knew this album was going to be very different from The Tortured Poets Department. Even Taylor herself said that this album was going to be a ‘Glitter Gel Pen’ album and that it is supposed to be “infectiously, joyful, wild, and dramatic” (Which I totally think it is). The album is supposed to be fun. I don’t understand why people thought it would be a Folklore/The Tortured Poets Department 2.0 album.
Now that the album has been out for 3 days (now that I’m writing this), social media has had a lot to say about this album. Some people actually like the album (people like me) and some people in the comments sections of posts are saying negative things like “This is not Taylor,” “Travis changed her,” “What happened to Folklore Taylor,” and so many more awful comments.
And I’m not saying people can’t have their own opinions. You can have your own opinion on the album. Just don’t be so negative about it. Like myself, when I first listened to it, I thought it was not horrible like people said it was. After a few listens, I love the album so much. It just keeps getting better and better. I recently just saw the listening party movie with my best friend Courtnie and it was the best. It made me really understand more about the album and the songs and why she chose those lyrics and beats for them.
In conclusion, I think Taylor was allowed to have fun with this album. She does not have to be a lyrical genius all the time. This album had such a 1989 feeling to it and it makes me get up and dance. The thing is, I don’t think Taylor deserves all the hate she is getting. I feel like this happens with every album she releases where people say they hate it and then they end up loving it in the next week or so. I don’t think we should be wishing divorce upon Travis and Taylor, and I don’t think we should be telling her to get back with an ex that’s breakup left her in such a dark place. Overall, I think the album is awesome. The vibe, the beat, and the theme make the album great. People might not agree with me and that’s ok.
