The Glow Dance at THS is set to take place on Friday, March 28th, offering students an exciting night filled with neon lights, energetic music, and an important message about traffic safety. Created by seniors Cassidy Rich and Faith Ellis, the event was developed as part of their action plan from the Youth Driven Summit, a summer program dedicated to raising awareness about safe driving. This initiative is meant to blend fun with education, encouraging students to reflect on the dangers of reckless driving.
Cassidy and Faith attended Youth Driven, a three-day summit held at Bryant University in Rhode Island, where students participated in workshops and activities centered around traffic safety. The program covers critical issues such as drunk driving, distracted driving, and speeding. One of the key aspects of the summit is the action plan, where each school creates a project to bring back to their community. Thinking about that, Cassidy and Faith designed the Glow Dance as a way to engage the school community in a meaningful and interactive way.
Beyond raising awareness, the event will also serve a deeper purpose by honoring the memory of Patty Daniels, a victim of a drunk driving accident. Through the Adopt a Victim program organized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Youth Driven/Youth Leadership adopted Patty for the year with the intention to honor her and help her family.
Students attending the Glow Dance can expect a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. The cafeteria will be transformed into the dance floor, where students can dress in glowing outfits and enjoy the music and energy. Alongside the dance, there will also be stations with fun activities about traffic safety. Students are encouraged to dress in neon or glow in the dark outfits to enhance the atmosphere of the event. However, attire must still be school appropriate. The event is open to all students who are not on the IOU list.
The Glow Dance is more than just a fun school event; it is an opportunity to raise awareness about reckless driving while also supporting the family of a victim. It starts at 6pm and ends promptly at 9pm. Tickets will be sold during all lunches, and the cost is $5. All the money raised will go to Patty’s family.
